My name is Jason. I would like to introduce you to my website, and my new blog.
It has been a long time in the making, and I have hesitated to start many times. No longer.
I want to make a commitment to you, and create accountability for myself.
I am going to commit to publishing a blog post 2 times per week, on Tuesday’s and Friday’s. I’m not sure what about yet, but that is part of the journey I am about to undertake.
No more excuses, just action on my commitment to myself, and to you.
In this post, I will be covering my decision to start blogging, and how I got started, including my inspiration (whom maybe will inspire you too!). It’s finally time to start, and I am excited to share it with you.
Now, with that said……
Why Start Blogging?
The decision to start blogging has been one in the making for a long time. I want to explore my writing potential, and see what really interests me (or is at least worth the effort of writing about). It’s about passion and purpose.
I am searching for my passion. I think the answer may be in writing.
I admit, I’m a perfectionist at heart, so the main reason I haven’t started is I feel that my words aren’t good enough for ‘publishing’. Then of course, there are the usual excuses like:
- Not enough time
- Can’t figure out WordPress
- Want to make my site good enough before I start writing
- Nothing interesting to write about
- Etc.
So, why choose to start now?
It’s simple really. There is no time like the present to start building your dreams, even if the dream is yet unknown.
I’ve been sitting on the fence trying to decide. Fighting the urge to make something that I can call my own. A product of my own making. Why have I been fighting it?
Fear.
Fear of failure. Fear of ridicule. Fear of rejection. That I am not good enough to follow in the footsteps of those that have attempted before me.
No more. Now it is time to stand on my own feet and fly my flag. To tell my story, whatever that may be, and forge a new path into the future.
To eventually merge with the highway that is the true calling for Jason Townsend.
How I Got Started Blogging
I’ve spent the past two years trolling the web looking for inspiration in not only blogging, but startups too. Feeling so isolated and depressed in the boundaries of my knowledge of corporate engineering work, I turned to the internet first, then to my good friends whom I had lost contact.
It was the act of reaching out to these friends (shout out to you Mike, Mitch, and Lionel), that got me started on my journey. A journey of alternative business means, and exploration of online presence.
It pays to have friends like these. Thanks guys. You’e the best.
That’s not what got me started with this blog though. Although he came recommended by my good friend Mitch, it was in fact a perfect stranger that got the fire started.
His name is Pat Flynn, author of my favourite blog (and podcast), the Smart Passive Income Blog.
The topics covered by Pat have given me so many ideas and encouragement, and a real sense of ‘belonging’ to something that is inspiring, creative, and world changing. If you’re looking to embark on a blogging journey, I encourage you to start here.

Your inspiration has given me courage to start this without knowing, but trusting that any start is a good one, and that the journey shall be a rewarding and enlightening one.
